The White House

Our story.

The White House used to be referred to as the Manse and was sold by the Church of Scotland in the 1960’s. In the early 1970’s when the property came back on the market it was bought by Professor R.V. Jones who was a director of British Intelligence under Winston Churchill. At the time, Prof. Jones headed up the physics department at Aberdeen University. He and his wife Vera used to vacation and spend weekends in Corgarff. The area's stunning views and tranquility also held the added bonus of being an excellent location for fishing, which was a favorite pastime of the Professor.

Today, the house is owned by the grandson and the property is managed by Jo Smith a close, longtime family friend who has many years experience in the hospitality industry. Jo lives just a short mile away from the White House. As to the actual name --- well the house is indeed white but may also be a reflection on professor Jones’ humor as the house had many visits during his time by VIP’s from the U.S.
